Happy New Year!
Between making final changes to the book and taking care of a newborn and my wonderfully very two-year-old little boy, I have to apologize for not posting any updates recently. A lot happened as the year wrapped up and then the holidays crept in and family took over life for a while, which is always a good thing, but I’m sorry I’ve left this space somewhat lacking in the meantime.
In the week before Thanksgiving, we worked quite hard on perfecting the text of the book, from looking at exactly what each page needed to say, to scrutinizing the word count and finalizing all the illustrations. The publisher wanted to make sure each page wasn’t so long that it would lose a child’s attention, but that the text also stayed true to the message I am hoping to convey, and of course that the images reflected the heart of those words. It was not easy, but I have to say that the book you will see in March is by far a better book than the one I began with, and this process has challenged me in the best way possible as a writer. It was wonderful to see the book progress with each conversation with the editor and almost daily see it become better and better (in my own opinion) as we worked out the fine details.
And, I was privileged to see the final version of the illustrations as well, paired with my text, and I am floored and so thrilled with how they turned out. What a blessing it was to find Emily! She has truly brought this book to life and helped make it something special. So for those of you who just can’t wait for the book’s release to see more of it, here’s a preview of one of my favorite pages:
As soon as we pin down the release date and where exactly it will be available, I will definitely share more! Check back frequently because you don’t want to miss the details if we get a blog tour organized and how to get a free copy of the book!
